I have embarked on a new endeavor. A few months back, I decided to get certified as an open water diver. Right around that time, Groupon must have read my mind, and a special came up. I snatched it right up. It took me a few months to actually get my class scheduled, but I finally did last month. It was a 2 week course, with 2 evenings of class time, 2 pool dives and 4 ocean dives spread over 2 Saturdays. I loved the entire process. Although I did have a rough first ocean dive... The ocean was terrible that day, and multiple people got sea sick. I went back the next week determined. That week the ocean was flat like a lake, and we had absolutely amazing dives.
Since then, I have had 1 more diving adventure. After many months I was finally able to dive with my friend Lindsey who was one of my inspirations to get certified in the first place. We were joined by my new friend Greg who was in my dive class. We decided to dive with a boat in Fort Lauderdale
The American Dream. We had such a wonderful experience with them.
That morning we did 2 dives, one was a wreck call
the Robert Edmister Wreck. This is what is called an anchor dive. this means the dive boat anchors to the wreck, and you actually make your way down a rope from the top of the water to the center of a wreck. Unfortunately my camera has a maximum depth of 33ft, and this wreck was about 70 ft at the sand. But there are great shots of the wreck at the link above.
Next we did a reef drift dive. This means the boat drops you off at the end of the reef, and you drift down to the other end where the boat picks you up. this was at about 20 ft of water so I was able to snap some shots.

Hello There.
This dive was about 35 minutes, and we saw some pretty great fish, lobster, and what we called the "underwater gun show". At one point, we looked over and saw some very fit, spear divers that looked like underwater superheros. Lindsey and I looked at each other trying to figure out the underwater signal for "that guy was hot!"

All in all, I think I may have a new love. A new expensive, but incredible hobby. Next month there is the Coral Spawn dive which I am very much looking forward to. In the meantime, I will just tell everyone I meet how amazing my diving experience has been thus far.... cant wait to log many more dives!
